The refrigerator seems to have done the job on that first experimental batch.  Done the job well enough anyway.  Time to move on.

But  not this weekend.  I've run into one of my periodic slumps - too tired, or not interested in being terribly productive today.  I did most of the things on my to do list, but couldn't bring myself to launch into any of my big projects.

Like sewing the granddaughters spring dresses.  I have made some progress, and am sure a couple good days work will get them done, but wasn't motivated today.
Sewing is something I usually enjoy.  It is one of the things that calms me, regenerates me .. but today I couldn't bring myself to do it.  Probably because of the book I'm reading.

I love to take a day off and just read.  My current book has some rather tragic characters during WWII in Germany.  I love history.  As I am reading, I am aching for these women and their trials.  I can't help feeling that my closing the book to go sew spring dresses is like abandoning them.  I need to finish the story so they are released from their misery.

The violence of the Nazi's in the story reminds me of some discussion I've been hearing lately in my husband's TV shows referring to Toxic Masculinity.   The expression of violent power has happened throughout history -- The Nazi extremists, other times of warring power struggle, and I'd have to say the Inquisition and some of the religious struggles (Catholic vs Protestant) in Europe too.
The pundits on TV are talking about it happening now in the United States, and I see no reason why we would be immune.
The Missouri persecution of the Mormons comes to mind.
I'm not sure I know of a solution at this point.  Tragically families and individuals suffer as these Toxic individuals wreck their havoc.

We keep thinking we are an enlightened civilized society now.  Laws and proposals are made that depend on civil and mature behavior to work for the good of all.  Unfortunately the behavior of mankind does not really change (though I believe individuals can change).  That is the reason knowing history is so important.  The hunger for power is still lurking and needs to be guarded against.  Power does not have the best interests of the people at heart.
Simplistic suggestions to solve the problem can also do more harm than good.  Again we need to look to history to see what has been done in the past, and it's consequences.
